I watched Meet Joe Black about two days ago. I must say I enjoyed every bit of the movie. The actors really played their parts well: Susan(Claire Forlani), who got swept away by a dashing young man she earlier met in a coffee shop, unfortunately Death(Brad Pitt) took hthe guy’s body and further swept her off her feet in her own home; Bill(Anthony Hopkins) who was paid a visit by Death(who was to serve as his(Bill) escort to the other side of life. I kinda liked the way Bill took things professionally, and maintained square shoulders till the end.

I trust my naija peoples, “back to sender”. The question is: if it was you, how would you have handled it?

I also enjoyed the lines Bill used when he talked about Love. Its true though, but not when the object of one’s love is Death, as in the movie, or one that leads-to-death, in real life.

And for Susan, I also enjoyed how she portrayed herself like a 5-year old who looked so innocent and lovely too. I wondered if the ’shaking of her head’ every now and then was part of the script, especially anytime she was talking with Joe Black, if it was part of the ‘i’m sooooooo much in love with you’ idea.

I tried to shake my own head but nothing happened. hahaha

anyway, here are some lines I jotted down…from Bill, talking to his daughter about love.

Love is passion,
an obsession,
someone you can’t live without.
I say fall head over heels,
find someone you can love like crazy,
and who would love you the same way back.
How do you find him?
well, you forget your head
and listen to your heart.
The truth is, theres no sense living life without this:
to make the journey and not fall deeply in love,
well, you havent lived a life at all.
But you have to try,
’cause if you havent tried, you haven’t lived.
Stay open,
who knows, lightning could strike.

Nothing lasts, thats the way it is with men and women.

- milleniums multiplied by eons in times without end.

Its not what you say to someone you love,
its what you don’t say

Be deliriously happy or at least leave yourself open to be

The idea of falling in love with death, I’ll reserve this for another day, but truly, yes the road downhill is one that has no break-pads. It was also quite odd that Death fell in Love with a mortal, I mean, forget the idea of using someone’s body, but can Death really fall in Love – I mean, the angel of Death falling in Love?

or maybe the idea of Death falling in Love might not be that important, we should be more concerned when someone falls in love with Death, coz death can be either male or female.

anyway, I’ve also been trying to reconcile the idea of being ‘deliriously happy/leaving oneself open to be‘, with the possibility that if such is the case, the end result is not usually a happy one, coz you will definitely be victimized or at least dissapointed, after the story ends. However, for Susan, Death returned the body of the guy she met at the coffee shop at the end of the film. Nowadays, its not always the same, isn’t it, if really someone falls in love with death!

anyhow, I believe we should be deliriously happy or at least leave ourselves open to be.
