Mrs. Biodun Kumuyi, wife of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, is dead.

She died on Saturday at her residence in the International Bible Training Centre, Ayobo, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb.

Aged 57, a statement by the church secretary on Sunday said she died after a brief illness.

Although the statement was silent on the nature of the sickness that claimed the life of the pastor‘s wife, our correspondent learnt that it had to do with her legs and general body pains.

A source in the church claimed that she had been battling with the ailment since January before she passed on on Saturday.

She died at a time members of the church were engrossed in their annual Easter retreat titled, “Wonders of the cross” at designated camp centres nationwide.

Our correspondent learnt that Kumuyi is taking the death of his wife calmly.

A source said that a few hours after the death, her husband preached at the retreat held at the Deeper Life Conference Centre, situated at Km 42, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The source said that unlike the pastor, his message was delayed on Saturday for about three hours.

On Sunday, Kumuyi also delivered a message titled, “Loveth thou me?”

Although he did not mention the death, he was said to have advised the congregation to love Jesus Christ more than anything or anybody no matter the situation they found themselves.

He was also said to have introduced his sermon with a hymn, “Hold the fort, for I am coming, Jesus whispers still.”

Despite the fact that the hymn was not included in the programme pamphlet, the pastor was said to have rendered it for about 15 minutes before he started the sermon.

Until her death, Mrs. Kumuyi was the National Woman Coordinator of the church.

She was also the International Coordinator of the Women Ministry in Africa and other continents where the church has branches.

She was the publisher of the popular Christian Women Mirror magazine.

She is survived by her husband, an aged mother, two sons, Jerry and John, as well as sisters.

The General Overseer, Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Wilson Badejo, told our correspondent on the telephone that although he was not familiar with the deceased, her death was a shock to him and the Christian community.

“We extend our sympathy to our dear brother, William. We sincerely pray that God will give him the fortitude to bear the loss,” Badejo said.

The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Peter Adebiyi, said as a partner in the service of God, he received the news of Mrs. Kumuyi’s death with pain in his heart.

He said, “While I commiserate with my brother, Kumuyi, on the sudden departure of his soul mate, trusted friend and companion, I am glad that she has inherited eternity which Jesus Christ promised all those who believe Him, trust Him and serve Him with all diligence.”

The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Ola Makinde, described the deceased as a wife and a good working partner to her husband, saying that no man could achieve what the pastor had achieved without a good working partner.

“We miss her dearly. She has fought the good fight of faith. We condole with church members, her children and her husband. I believe she has gone to be with the Lord,” Makinde said.

President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, while expressing shock at the death, prayed to God to give Kumuyi the fortitude to bear the loss.
