Heres a text message I received yesterday night. If theres something called spam text message, maybe t’would qualify, and perhaps still, the way these GSM companies try to make money – isn’t it offensive?

Dear Valued customer, for using N2000 airtime within the last 30-days, you have qualified for a draw to watch Glo Laffta Fest, a festival of comedu, music & drama featuring Basket Mouth, I go die, Gordons, P-square, Faze etc on Sun July-5 at Balmoral Events Centre, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun. To qualify, simply text “Glo Laffta Fest” and your phone model (e.g. Nokia E61i) to 35001. Each SMS costs N100. Entry closes June 28. You will be notified if your entry is successful. The event is restricted to Lagos subscribers only. Rule your world.

 

Yes, I use a Glo-line, but no, I haven’t loaded N2000 in the past 30-days. duh!

Besides, what did I exactly qualify for?

  • GLO says “I qualified for a draw” and yet “to qualify”, I need to send a text message which would cost me NGN100.00?

What is the difference between this and ‘Advanced Fee Fraud’ which has become a National badge?

  • And should my entry not be successful, what happens to my hundred bucks? and the first qualification?

 

Nigerian mentality says: they wan do me wayo (they want to dupe me!)

    I see your point. They say you’ve qualified, why do you need to qualify again? And of what use is the model of your phone?

    Perhaps it is a ruse. Assume the message is not from Glo at all, then you would only “qualify” finally if your phone is very expensive. then… then what?

    I received an sms yesterday morning, Tuesday 30th June, informing me that I had won 5kva Yamaha generator in Glo Jumbo offer and that I should call one Sam on 07058037608. who knows if it is a 419 gimik. Na God go save us from this people and those who use them as means to the end in order to dupe users
