If you are reading this post, please consider it an SOS(save our soul) call on behalf of as many bonafide and well-meaning Nigerians who get offended by inappropriate dressing of Nigerian women – in this case, front desk banking officers who, it seems like have some compulsion to feature their breasts on their bank’s counters on a daily basis.
Could someone please tell me:
- are these women just being fashionable? Is a display of one’s breasts the new banking-job definition for fashion in Nigeria?
- are these women under some kind of spell, are they aware of the reputation they are projecting about themselves to their customers? – bringing themselves to a position of disrespect since there is sometimes little / no difference between their physical appearances and that of prostitutes? no pun intended.
- On a more serious note, are these women dressing up on their own free will or is there some kind of compulsion, a job-requirement in Nigerian banks? Is there a silent, but mandatory dress code, rule/regulation for front desk banking officers(especially) to expose their breasts to their customers?
I have done some research and observed that those ladies who are not at the front desk are a little more decent than those who are at the front desk. Thats why I’m of the opinion that there might be some form of requirement for the front desk staffs.
And even if there is such a requirement, is there no female in any position of authority in any bank in Nigeria that feels that something is wrong by such a requirement, especially on the female sex; someone that thinks the dignity of the female being is abused if she is made to display her genitals for the purpose of attracting attention, and that such a requirement should be spoken and fought against.
Talking of attracting attention, the entirety of the human race is just of two sex’s: male and female; so if the display of one’s genitals is the new fashion, I wonder why each sex hasn’t gotten to a bored state of mind, considering that there is only one option of attraction anyway. Or perhaps, do some women fancy the fleshly sight too?
I am male, but my mother is a woman and not even if she were blind would she dress up in such a debasing manner – even if she were to make a mistake in dressing up herself. And should I have a daughter working in a bank in Nigeria, I would have called her aside and given her some serious opinions.
Do these women really think they portray themselves as responsible individuals? a working-professional for that matter? someone whom we believe has a University Certificate somewhere? If front desk officers in banks were a host of village women, we might blame their act on their lack of “exposure” – coming to the city for the first time, lack of information and the fact that even their brains are local.
Worse: when I see a wedding ring on the fingers of such front desk officers, I can’t but imagine how disgusted I would feel to see my wife standing all semi-bare breasted, and attending to a customer at her place of work. Is this how they attend to their own visitors at home? Won’t it be better to be stark-naked, totally in the nude, at least we would assume we were all back in Eden – back to the beginning. The anger rises within me, and I wonder who / where on earth their husbands are, who cannot tell their wives(not girls) to dress decently and in order. Or who / where their boyfriends are.
Yesterday, I stopped across three banks around the Lagos Mainland in the order: Diamond bank, Zenith bank and the Guarantee Trust Bank(branch locations withheld). After exiting from the GTB, I felt so pissed and mad at all the owners of the breasts displayed across several counters. Breast-overload, an overload of all the indecency of the female sex; I was happy to breathe some fresh air. I hope it won’t come to a time, when some of us would have to start putting on eye glasses with filters, blocking out some women and their flesh from sight. I felt so bad, wondering if there was some agreement / requirement somewhere somehow in their job-employments, demanding: you cannot work at the front-desk if your breasts are not hanging out.
Of the three banks, the women at Zenith bank (branch withheld) had the largest breasts, and from my analysis, their blouses were sown to expose at least 70% of their individual assets. In fact, my thoughts ran up and down, wondering if these women would have had special bras made for them for the purpose of exposing their assets.
There was one lady(I call her the Zenith bank Breast Queen BQ) whose fleshly-display made me to wonder what exactly she must be thinking – if she thought she really had a bra on when she left her house. Yes, I tried as much to take my eyes away, but definitely I couldn’t close my eyes standing behind their counter.
As offended as I was, I wondered how she(ZenithBQ) would feel if I were to tell her that her dressing was very inappropriate and extra-offensive. In fact, I so much looked around for a complaints box – I could have left a note somewhere. Besides all these, I wondered if there were any female customers inside the Zenith bank branch who thought that these Zenith staff, especially the BQ had over-done whatever they thought they were doing; someone who taught it right to use the female gender similarity to call one of these front desk ladies aside and give them a word of advice. Perhaps, they(Zenith bank staff) wont consider it as much an insult, if it came from a fellow female.
A mischevious thought followed, that I should find how to attach a camera to my shirt and take pictures. Perhaps, if I could post the pictures of these offensive BQs online for a couple of days, all the other rats would run into their holes?
The Guarantee Trust bank branch I visited had the 2nd largest and most exposed breasts. I’m presently wondering if job-interview passing requirements in banks required having a huge bust, and the willingness to flaunt it. Such that if you don’t meet the criteria, you wont be considered for employment? Diamond bank was number-3.
Across these and many other banks in Nigeria, its very hard to see these breast exposition bankers dressed in Islamic attire. So I’m assuming all these ladies (single and married) are Christians / at least professing to be; attending one Church fellowship or the other, and proclaiming the Christian faith. And I’m wondering if the pastors in these churches teach decency in dressing, especially for the female folk; if these BQs had fellow church members who could have seen them and their display of their body assets at work, and who could have called their fellow Church members to caution. Or are all these women pagans?
Before this post becomes another long one, let me bring it to a close. I do not mean to demean the female gender, however, I just feel that if I am offended by the sight of human displayed flesh, there should be some females who are as displeased as myself, much less other males. And if there are some banking jobs requirements, is it not time for women to stand up and together to uphold their dignity?
If Mary the mother of Jesus wasn’t a decent dressed individual, the Holy Spirit would have passed her by, and chosen someone else to be the mother of Jesus. And in our kind of society whereby children are getting more enlightened at a younger age, don’t these front desk BQs pose a danger to the young minds which we call “children”?
Your comments and opinions are welcome!

….its so pathetic that some actually do it with a purpose…some do not actually know that they are all bare and exposed..
therefore, if you are a female, working in a bank and you are reading this post, just bend your head down and lower your eyelids to see if you are a culprit (you just might be a culprit,,,unknowingly)..

it’s too late to save the bare chest banking industry, cos the girls will ask you whether you have a job for them.
