question: why do Nigerians run back to Nigeria after committing a crime abroad?

The following is in reaction to the once-not-famous but now superstar Jessica
Tata whose negligence lead to the death of the kids she was entrusted to
take care of; and who decided to run away to Nigeria to flee from jail.

Just in case you didnt hear the story before, the long and short is that Miss Tata was a day care owner in the USA. She left the kids in her care to quickly go somewhere and before she came back, a fire had started and all the kids died.

The part of the story that really pissed me off is that she thought of running away – to Nigeria for that matter:

I’m assuming she suddenly remembered, “hey America, I am a Nigerian Citizen“, and since Nigeria has no borders, no roads and no bridges, no police, it will be the safest place to hide out. She thought she would never be found. This must have suddenly dawned on her that her next direction was the airport – Nigeria, here I come. Can you imagine, from Houston straight to Port Harcourt. You mean this Miss doesn’t have relatives in Lagos where she could make a stop-over? kai.

question:

  • why do some Nigerians feel that Nigeria is the next
destination after committing a crime(whether intentionally or not) abroad?
  • How come these our so called
Nigerians in diaspora suddenly remember home when its time to runaway
    from Europe or America?
  • did we beg anybody to leave Nigeria? when did
the fatherland become the next runaway destination.
  • and after dragging the name of the country into the mud, these folks think it right to return as soon as possible.

I wonder if the above woman could identify by name the relatives she ran
away to meet in Nigeria. I blame the Nigerian police for releasing her. They should have allowed her to smell some pepper by throwing her in a Nigerian jail-cell for 1-month before whisking her back to America. Next time when she does something wrong, Nigeria won’t cross her mind.

On a more serious note, I think its time for Nigeria to start guarding its boarders!, but anyway, Nigeria is fast gaining ground on its international reputation ruining representatives:

1)
Nigeria’s permanent representative to the CIA: Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab who softlanded at the MMIA(Muritala Mohammed International Airport) before embarking on his mission of death.
2) Tobechi Onwuhara, Nigerian American Scam Genius  – news has it that this James Bond Nigerian is cooling his heels somewhere within Nigeria’s 4-walls? or he might be out again on the prowl. In any case, the Nigerian MMIA is so dark that Nigerian Immigration officers cannot see Nigerians when they pass through. If it were an Oyinbo man who came in with dollars, the eyes of these immigration officers will suddenly pop open.
3) keep them coming!!

On a more serious note, I think movie producers in Nigeria can begin thinking about the Nigerian version of the movie: The Fugitive, since we have actors and actresses already.
