Notable Islamic scholars on Monday converged on 112 Olateju Street, Mushin, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, to witness the naming ceremony of the baby born with Quran in his hand on 7 May, 2012.

After a lecture that lasted some minutes, an Islamic scholar, Ustaz Abdul Rahman Olanrewaju Ahmed, named the baby boy Abdul Wahab Iyanda Aderemi Irawo.
However, the Islamic cleric warned the baby’s mother not to liken or call the boy a Prophet of God.
He said it pleases Allah to bring the baby to the world in a miraculous way and that does not make him special from other children.
Other Islamic clerics who witnessed the naming ceremony included Sheikh Abdulraman Sulaimon Adangba, the Chief Missioner of Nasrulifathi Society of Nigeria, NASFAT, Alhaji Abdullahi Akinbode and his counterparts from Alifathiaquareeb Islamic Society of Nigeria, a.k.a Quareeb, and Dr. Ramoni Tijani.
Earlier on Sunday, the baby’s mother, Kikelomo Ilori, 32, a cosmetologist converted to Islam. She took the name Sherifat.
According to her, she was born a Muslim but later embraced Christianity.
The baby’s grandmother also embraced Islam and took a Muslim name.
Meanwhile, the venue of the naming ceremony was jam packed with traders who were making brisk business selling souvenirs of the miracle baby including T-Shirts, an almanac bearing the child’s photograph and other Islamic souvenirs.
Yesterday evening, the baby’s almanac was selling like hot cake at Iyana-Ipaja under bridge where Islamic faithful gathered to behold his photograph in the almanac. Many of them bought copies of the almanac.
Controversy has trailed the birth of the baby. While some said it was impossible for a baby to be born with a miniature Quran in his hand, others argued that with God, nothing was impossible.
Medical doctors dismissed the story as a huge hoax.

If I experienced a birth with a Quran (or any other sacred scriptures) I would convert to Islam too (or any other applicable religion). Until then I have no choice but to dismiss such stories as superstition/hoax.

hahaha. But please note, its the mom that is converting. The baby itself, eventhough given a Muslim name is not a Muslim. He hasnt made his own decision.
By the time he grows up and realizes he’s a local celebrity, would he be able to handle the pressure? These are the kind of children that will grow up and convert to Christianity.

The conversion game is silly. We should embrace and accept each other the way we are – not only if the other person re-invents themselves in our own image.

In the Qura’n is already said there are some people that there eyes are blocked, ears are covered that they will not hear the truth or listen to the truth. so even they are being shown the the truth they will say is a superstition, and those that said the baby is yet to decide the which religion, they are also among them suratu Bahkra. chapter 2. The baby will rather be a local champion than for him to a disbeliever. PEOPLE LET US THINK.

I dont why christians do challenge everything islamic, if its a superstition would you ever be alive to hear it ,it would have gone for long time but you were alive to hear it why don’t you conduct your personal research and stop saying it is superstitious. And moreover it is fallacious as well for you say something you have not seen a lie. Is that not a fallacy of hasty generalisation. Bani Adam think as God is coming one day.

There is a lot of good and a lot of bad in Christianity, Islam, and any other religion. I agree with Halima that we should think first. Therefore, is it possible for a baby to be born with a foreign obect – Quran, Bible, bottle of beer, pair of shoes, anything? Common sense tells us: “No!”. As they say, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Has any been produced here, scientifically verified and confirmed? Didn’t think so. That is why no serious Islamic scholar would accept it either – that is because, as i said before, an event like this reduced God to a caricature. A God that prefers to play silly tricks such as making a baby born with a Quran instead of healing the multitudes of sick, feeding the hungry, liberating the oppressed? What an impotent God! Good enough for shallow, superstitious believers. I don’t think any Muslim scholar would disagree with me. Please check. I for one would condemn such a God and would not want to have anything to do with it.

you are well spoken. Unfortunately, Nigerians dont think when they are supposed to think.
And considering that this god hasnt been able to provide us security of life and property, electricity, water, good roads, good people, good government, a functioning educational system, yet he has the time to insert something that looks like a quoran in a mothers womb?
Your comment inspires me to write part-2 of my Nigerians are bad people series.
Even if it was a Bible, I would still doubt it. The next thing we will hear now is that another baby was born with a buddha sign – so that buddhists in Lagos can start wagging their tongues. And when we hear that another baby is born with a live-cigarette, tobacco companies can then join the spiritual wagon.
Even the Islamic scholars that have visited the child and mother refuse to believe it, and yet some people here are telling the rest of us that God was involved. Which one? where?

Agree, this has nothing to do with Islam or any other religion in particular. If it was a Bible or any other holy scripture it would still not look like a sign from God but a hoax. I don’t think Nigerians are any different from any other nations – there is good and bad in everyone. But they may be used to a higher level of corruption and lower level of education than they deserve.

whosoever describes this as hoax he really denies the will of God, so for that, is the promise made by Allah in His holy book Qur’an “inna deena indallahi islam”.
