Video: Be the Peace that you Preach: why a Muslim and a Christian shouldn’t kill each other

Sometime ago, I wrote an article asking for the difference between the Christian and Islamic God. Some commenters on the post argued that we are worshipping the same God, some others say the Christian God and the Muslim God are different. Read the post: Muslims and Christians, what is the difference between our Gods.

I personally do not believe we(Christians and Muslims) are worshipping the same God.

Before writing the post: IF ALLAH IS THE ALMIGHTY GOD, WHY CANT HE FIGHT FOR HIMSELF, I had asked some of my Muslim colleagues at work if they felt that “professed Islamic Jihadists” are Muslims and if they(Islamic Jihadists) were fighting on behalf of the Islamic-Allah. I was highly disappointed by the fact that my Muslim colleagues couldn’t give me a straight NO as an answer. Rather, they tried to explain what one part or the other of the Quoran says – which they thought I didn’t know.

With the death toll rising daily in Nigeria, courtesy the Boko Haram, I am still highly disappointed that the Muslim community in Nigeria has not taken any public stance against the Boko Haram, their adherents and secret-adherents in every corner of Nigeria.

  • I would have loved that Muslim leaders make public announcements against the Boko Haram;
  • I would love to see Nigeria’s Muslim community use every form of the public media to disassociate the Islamic community from BH;
  • I would love to hear Islamic messages aired publicly in Mosques condemning the activities of Boko Haram,
  • I would love to hear Islamic messages aired publicly in Mosques condemning the sympathy of secret sympathizers with of Boko Haram. If you relate with Muslims in Nigeria as much as I do on a daily basis, it isn’t difficult to pick out secret Jihadist sympathizers. Sometimes, I wonder that if these secret sympathizers had mixed up with the wrong crowd, the possibility they join up in suicide missions is very high.
  • I would like to see the Muslim community set up information centers – where people can report suspicious activities of fellow Muslims.

Sometime ago, I had to go report to an Uncle of mine, who is a Muslim, what I heard preached at a Mosque in Lagos – I had been passing by. The unholy teacher told his members that they should not associate with any of their Christian neighbors, that they shouldn’t do business together, they shouldn’t buy stuffs from(Christian owned) shops; he didn’t say anything about “selling to Christians”; but that they shouldn’t allow their Children to play with Children of Christian neighbors. The part of the children was what really pissed me off. I mean, why sow a seed of hate in a child? My uncle calmed me down and said they were aware of the wrong teachings of this useless teacher and would take care of the situation.

Back to todays main story:

The video below re-echoes something which I said in the earlier post and you need to listen to it.

I have transcribed the video for your reading pleasure:

The greatest homage we can pay to truth is to use it. James Russel Lowell.

We have enough Religion to make us Hate than to Love and Tolerate, when the God of every Religion is the God of Love and Forgiveness.

Look at what we have done to ourselves in the name of God.
- we kill innocent people,
- we kill our Friends and Neighbors that have helped us in so many ways,
- we make our mothers and wives cry, and make them widows,
- we destroy the house of God,
- we destroy properties that serve us irrespective of WHERE and HOW we pray.

Your Mohammed will not fight my Jesus because he recognized him as a prophet and my Jesus will not fight your Mohammed because he preached ill of no prophet.

Why then do we destroy ourselves along ethnic and religious lines all in the name of fighting for God? But people that fight for God do not kill the worshippers of God. People that fight for God do not go against the word of God. People that fight for God do not kill innocent men, women and children because when they do any of these, it is the original sin.

(You cannot love God the creator, if you hate his creation and destroy it under the pretext of worshipping God.)

But come to think of this?: Why do we spend millions upon millions fighting for a living God that can defend himself? why do we endanger our lives fighting for a living God that is greater, stronger and wiser than all of us? and why do we die in vain fighting for the living God?

Yes we die in vain because He does not see us as His warriors, we are sinners, because we kill the people He asks us not to, and interpret His word the way it suits us.

(There is no right way to do a wrong thing.)

But didn’t your Mohammed and my Jesus ask us to Love our neighbors as ourselves?

Why are we more islamic than prophet Mohammed and more Christian than Jesus Christ? by hating, fighting and killing our neighbors? while poverty is openly inflicting pangs upon pangs on us without minding how and where we pray, and the more we fight, new and bigger poverty befalls us.

(Churches and Mosques are not supposed to be about THEM and US, rather about MAN and GOD.)

Look at our violence within cities and look how poverty blossoms. These, we inflicted upon ourselves in the name of fighting for God. But my Jesus and your Mohammed never lacked self control, what happened then to ours?

(If we build bridges than fences, we will do more exploits for God)

Be like your Mohammed and let me be like my Jesus. As we in unity fight poverty with one voice, one courage and one strength, pass this message to your brothers and sisters, and I will do the same.

The people asking us to fight will never ask their children to fight.

Be the peace that you preach.
